Justice Advisory Council

The purpose of the Justice Advisory Council is to focus the justice initiatives of DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church in a sustainable way that is grounded in our values and the passions of the congregation, and to identify where the congregation can have the greatest impact.

The current team can be reached at JAC@dupageuuchurch.org. The team includes Co-Chairs Karen Peck and Pat Welch, Dave Gorman (clerk), Sheila Berleman (Groups, Initiatives, and Partnerships Specialist), and Kate LaGory (Statement of Conscience Specialist).

The Council is responsible for approving Justice groups, Justice initiatives, and Partnerships between the church and community organizations. Coming this fall, they will also be relaunching the Statement of Conscience Program.

They are guided by the congregation’s feedback during congregational conversations. Amongst other considerations, the team works to ensure that proposals:

  • align with our mission, vision, values, and strategic goals
  • take into account the level of commitment required by the church and its members
  • avoid practical conflicts (timing, space, etc.) with other justice and/or church events
