The Endowment Fund provides a way for your ongoing support of the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church beyond your lifetime. There are several ways for giving. Each option gives tax advantages to the donor, through current income tax deductions, capital gains tax avoidances, or estate tax exclusions.  Each of these choices will allow you to continue your support and commitment to the future of liberal religion in this community. DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church means different things to different people. For many, it is a place where words of wisdom are presented in order to challenge the mind and soul. To some, it is our music that awakens their spirit; for others, it is a place where friendships build the cornerstone of community.  For some, it is a place where hard questions are asked and true answers are never easy. For the young, it is a future; for our sages, it is a place to reflect and give back.  For those seeking help, DuPage UU Church is an outstretched hand. Singles, families, young, and aging – all come for a purpose and all are welcome.  Does our church hold a place in your heart? Remember the DuPage UU Church Endowment Fund when you want to commemorate a special occasion. We are a 501(C)(3) organization.

Congratulations to the Endowment grant recipients!

Thanks to the many congregational members who remembered the DuPage UU Church Endowment Fund on special occasions over the years, the fund exceeded its threshold for disbursement of grant money in 2012. The Endowment Fund Committee presented $10,000 to the Board at its November meeting and asked for grant applications for qualifying projects. Four groups submitted requests. The Board reviewed the requests and at its February meeting approved allocations that met full or partial requests for Marketing, F.I.R.E. Middle School group, Facilities Enhancement and Green Sanctuary. Here's how the grants will be spent:

•    The Marketing Committee will work with Reach Local to customize online pay-per-click advertising for the church. This should result in more people visiting our web site, calling us, and looking up our location on Google maps. The grant will provide about 6 months of optimized search terms.
•    F.I.R.E. Middle School Group will use its grant for a social action project -- the "birthday party in a box" element of the Humanitarian Service Project's "birthday box project" for children in DuPage County whose parents otherwise cannot afford a birthday celebration. This initiative ties in with our church's current focus on immigration.
•    The Facilities Enhancement Committee will use its grant to purchase 20 additional chairs for the new Sanctuary. This ensures we will have a minimum of 200 chairs when the Sanctuary opens.
•    Green Sanctuary's request outlined the poop, 'er scoop, on low-flush toilets. The grant will be used to replace 5 toilets and update one urinal, saving money and water (for 100 flushes, we will conserve 190 – 250 gallons of water).

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to serve as the principal vehicle for the receipt and investment of special gifts to the Church.  Such gifts may include but not be limited to bequests in wills, charitable remainder and other trusts, charitable gift annuities, assignment of life insurance, and transfers of property (cash, stocks, bonds, real estate).  The Fund is set apart from the general operating budget and managed separately from other funds of the Church.  All assets in the Fund are to be held in the name of the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church Endowment Fund.

The Committee

The Endowment Fund Committee manages the Fund in a manner consistent with the purpose of the Church as stated in its Constitution.  The Committee will additionally strive to maintain an ongoing awareness of the Fund in the Congregation and encourage on appropriate occasions, additional donations of accumulated, inherited, and appreciated resources.

The name and contact information of the committee chair may be found in the front of the Congregational Directory or on our list of committee contacts.

How To Give

Please consider giving to the Endowment Fund so that the Endowment Fund Committee can provide annual funds to the Board for dispersal to grant requests.  To give, write a check made payable to D.U.U.C. and write "Endowment Fund" on the memo line.  Also, if you would like to, you can write a brief description on the memo line such as "25th Wedding Anniversary" or "General Donation".

Checks can be mailed to the church office, placed in the offering containers during services or given to a member of the Endowment Fund Committee or Church Staff.   If you are considering planned giving, please contact a member of the Endowment Fund Committee.

Restriction of Principal & Distribution of Income

The Committee shall determine those portions of the Fund that are principal and income according to accepted accounting procedures.  All principal amounts will be retained and only the income expended, except that this congregation may, in particular, temporary, difficult circumstances, and where integrity of gift restrictions permit, by action in meeting assembled, by two-thirds majority of the church members voting, use a portion of the Fund principal for its operating budget.

A portion of the annual income from the Fund considered by the Committee to be reasonable and prudent shall be distributed to benefit the Church in accordance with policy formulated by the Board. The Committee does not determine the actual distribution of these funds.
